Baynes Creek: Ground Breaking
On October 16th, 2025, we officially broke ground on the Baynes Creek Development, a milestone moment for affordable housing in Greene County. Nearly 80% of essential workers in our community currently live outside the area due to the lack of affordable housing. Baynes Creek is set to change that.
This new development will provide affordable, owner-occupied homes designed for our local workforce, offering families a place to truly put down roots. The neighborhood will feature a large park, community gardens, and walking trails, creating a thriving space for families to live, grow, and connect in Greene County.
Speakers at the groundbreaking included Elaine Mathews, Greene County Habitat Director; Jan Broughton, Baynes Creek Chair; Joe Collums, Executive Director of Georgia Communities; Corey Williams, Mayor of Greensboro; and Commissioner Christopher Nunn. Together, their words underscored the shared commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive community right here in Greene County.
As of April 17, 2026, Infrastructure is actively underway at Baynes Creek. Crews are on site moving earth, installing utilities, and laying the groundwork that will soon support a thriving neighborhood. Each step forward brings us closer to turning this vision into reality.
With this critical phase in motion, home construction is just around the corner. Before long, these lots will become front porches, backyards, and gathering spaces for families who live and work right here in Greene County. Baynes Creek is more than a development, it’s the foundation for a stronger, more connected community.
