Shed Project
Come out on September 13th and help us build a shed! Our chapter has been working for some time to find a place where we can consolidate all of the promotional materials and other stuff we keep accumulating. Now we have the land and materials and a local resident, Spencer Crute, has volunteered to be our construction manager. We'll be located behind the Northside Restaurant which is just off Rt 29 across from where the new Lowe's and Walmart are going in (map).
The plan is to build in two phases. In phase one, from 8am to noon, we'll need to have 6-9 volunteers come out to do most of the actual construction work to prepare the base, all of the walls and the roof pieces. At noon, a second team will arrive for an old fashioned "barn raising" where we'll put all the pieces together.
We plan to invite a large group (to include local media) to help us build the shed and raise awareness for our upcoming house construction. We have some volunteers already, but we'll need more between now and then and we've also been asked if anyone has an air compressor or a nail gun with 16 penny nails that you can let us use.
We'd like to thank all of our sponsors that have helped make this project a reality. Better Living Building Supply donated all of the materials we needed to build our shed while Never Dark Generators donated the electric generator we needed on the build site. The site itself was donated by Frankie Daniel who owns the land where the Northside Restaurant is located. Northside offers a family-friendly place that serves steaks, fajitas, and Italian and French entrees as well as weekend breakfast.

Battle of Stanardsville
Our other big event in September will be a booth out at the Battle of Stanardsville. We haven't quite decided what we'll be doing out there this year beyond handing out literature yet, but we'll get our plans in place at the September meeting. If you have any ideas for fundraising or outreach that would appeal to the reenactment attendees, let us know. And, of course, we'll need volunteers to man the booth. The event will be the weekend of September 20-21.

Steering Committee Selection
Another vacancy on our committee was officially filled this month. Sandy Auer has agreed to be our Site Selection and Building Chairman. We still have a few vacancies left, though, as well as lots of subcommittee positions that need to be filled. For position descriptions, please email us and we'll send you the document which has all the details.
